Upload Application

How it works

LabApp is a marketplace for academic, research and university-produced software. If you have software that was produced at a university or may be of interest to researchers or academics of any type, this is the place for it. But before you upload your software, we want to make sure that you are aware of a few things.

As a marketplace, how much we earn is determined by how much software is sold. If you charge visitors to download your software, we take a piece of each transaction. The table below summarizes how we typically* divvy up the pot:

  • 50% revenue share to LabApp for under $999 in sales
  • 25% revenue share to LabApp for between $1,000 and $9,999 in sales
  • 10% revenue share to LabApp for $10,000 and higher in sales

* Note that your rates may be different if you are part of a university and your university has an agreement in place with LabApp. If your university hasn't negotiated special rates with LabApp and you think they should, please get in touch with your tech transfer office and let them know. If you don't know whether your university is in touch with us, contact us and we'll let you know.

The foregoing percentages are measured for each separate application and are measured over all such sales rather than resetting annually or monthly. As we mentioned earlier, we're still committed to hosting free software on the site - even though we don't make any money from it.

We will pay you within 30 days after the end of each calendar month, LabApp shall pay you your share of the application fees. There is a $50 minimum for payment.

LabApp reviews all software uploads to maintain the quality of the site. Please give us 1-2 business days to review your upload, plus an additional 3-5 business days if your university's technology transfer office is a LabApp partner and must also review your upload. As an uploader, you are solely responsible for ensuring that you have all rights necessary to distribute each application under the licenses you enter when uploading your application.
